i heard an old wise man once say
that magic and luck is all you need
to live happily ever after.
and so i went in search of that pot of magic.
i looked in forests of lands far away,
i hunted in homes of foreign hosts,
i sought for it in the darkest of nights
and through hot breathless summers.
i returned empty-handed
and cried to the old man,
"liar! there is no magic to be found anywhere!"
he smiled at me and told me a secret.
"anyone who believes in happily-ever-after
needs neither magic, nor luck."
i hung my head and asked,
"so, what hope is there
for a defeated lover like me?"
to which he replied knowingly,
"anyone who believes in magic and luck
needs neither happiness nor eternity."
