smile and the world asks you why you're smiling

smoky laser and disco lit evenings
turn into foggy dark nights,
when the street lights mist over
and the tea turns cold in instants.

you lead and i follow
on this road to nowhere.
we both know
that two wrong turns
don't make a right.

but two right turns
and we find ourselves
in a whole new world.

like bandini dupattas that dry in the desert winds
waiting to be wrapped and delivered,
my hands are tied.
and my heart has died.
a hundred times over.
